Junior Section

Target shooting is a popular, long established and growing sport that is practiced at the Olympics. It provides young people with the opportunity to learn a skill and self-discipline in a controlled competitive environment.

This club has a thriving Youth Section for young people aged between 10 and 17 years old. Our Youth Section range staff hold NSRA Youth Proficiency trainer qualifications and are advanced DBS checked. Safeguarding is a priority and sessions are arranged to satisfy these requirements with no unqualified or non-DBS certificate holders persons present other than parents or guardians who are not allowed onto the range.

All equipment is provided by the club, including use of the club air rifles and consumables such as pellets and targets.

Junior Membership:

Due to the nature of the sport, safety is the top priority. Therefore, our Youth Section trainers must be satisfied that a prospective junior member can physically hold a rifle firmly and steadily and have the maturity to operate it in a consistently safe manner.

The minimum age is 10 years old. However, young people mature physically and mentally at different ages. Prospective members will be assessed in their first session to make sure that they satisfy the safety requirements. This will be a judged and decided by the trainers alone. It might be necessary to pause an membership application until the young person is able to meet our safety criteria.

If accepted, prospective Junior members will complete the NSRA Youth Proficiency Course over a number of weeks at a cost of £45. This course provides a full introduction to small-bore target shooting and the safety expectations required by the sport. Once the course has been successfully completed, the young person will be eligible to join the club as a junior member. The NSRA Youth Proficiency course is recognised by the Scouting Association and a “marksmanship” qualification counts towards a Duke of Edinburgh award.

Due to the nature of our sport, we have a zero tolerance to poor behaviour within the club and any actions outside it that can bring the club into disrepute. We pride ourselves on our good reputation as a club and maintaining high safety standards throughout.

If you have any queries about a young person joining the club, please contact the membership secretary:
